ADA Compliance in 2021- Make Sure!

It’s a new year, and that makes it a great time to start seeing if your property’s sidewalks and walkways meet ADA Compliance in 2021. The rules in the ADA were created to ensure environments, facilities, and certain other resources are accessible to individuals with disabilities- as well as safe for them and everyone else to traverse without fear of coming to harm. Examples of who and what is usually enforced to adhere to these standards are places of public accommodation, commercial facilities, and state and local government facilities.

Florida Sidewalk Solutions are the experts in sidewalk repair, and we can help you bring your sidewalks walkways into ADA Compliance in 2021. Sidewalks are designed for groups of people to be able to move between public areas safely, and this also has to apply to those with disabilities. Sidewalks and walkways need to be accessible by wheelchair, for example, which means at certain key intervals there needs to be small rampways that lead up into the sidewalk. They can be made wider- but a sidewalk must have a minimum width of 36′ to meet ADA Compliance in 2021. On that note, if the sidewalk is less than 60″ across, passing spaces need to be added to the sides of the sidewalk at periodic intervals to allow for people to safely move past each other or get out of each other way even with support devices such as wheelchairs, power chairs, or crutches.  These intervals have to be  a minimum of every 200 feet, with the passing spaces themselves providing at least 60″ of clearance.

One of the most common ways your sidewalk or walkway will fall outside of ADA Compliance in 2021, likely won’t be due to improper creation or bad measuring, but later on, as it forms trip hazards. Trip hazards are defined as any sudden rise or differential in height of 3/4″  with no slope. Over time your walkways will succumb to these trip hazards due to natural wear and tear from use, and environmental factors such as rain and soil movement.

When dealing with new construction or updating existing structures on your property, you want to make sure that you keep all this in mind. Our procedures make it so you can keep the existing sidewalk while also repairing any trip hazards you may have such as holes, cracks, or uneven paving. As opposed to the commonly used grinder, we have the advantage of using cutters that reach edges and are able to cut more precisely where we need to.

Florida Sidewalk Solutions is the team you need to make your sidewalk meet ADA compliance. We are trip hazard removal specialists, using patented technology to completely remove obstructions from uneven sidewalks, concrete walkways, and handicap access ramps. This is way less expensive than the alternative- replacing entire sidewalk panels. For a quote or more information Call us today at 954-514-7218.
